Montana report shows wage disparity for women, Native Americans

Rep.-elect Mary Ann Dunwell, D-Helena, said at the press conference she is having a bill drafted to introduce in the 2015 Legislature to set a state minimum or living wage of $15 an hour.

A disproportionate share of Montana women and Native Americans and other people of color are earning less than a living wage, a new report released Tuesday said.

"Women and people of color are struggling to make ends meet," said former state Rep. Gail Gutsche of Missoula, director of the Montana Organizing Project, which released the report.

The report, "Equity in Balance," by the Alliance for a Justice Society of Seattle, examined wage statistics in 10 states, including Montana, and New York City.
