SIRTI, Sharp team up in Incubator

Spokane’s Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute (SIRTI) http://www.sirti.org/ has signed an agreement to provide incubator services for Sharp Laboratories of America, based in Camas, Wash.

The Spokesman Review

The lab is a research and development unit of Sharp, a global producer of technology products including home entertainment systems.

Sharp’s research and development unit has recently created a new division to spin out technologies, and help other companies turn them into products or services.

"SIRTI will help other businesses in finding financing and with other consulting services, such as manufacturing," said Jon Clemens, CEO of Sharp Labs.

SIRTI would generate revenue through those partnerships. Some companies may locate near Spokane and generate new jobs as a result of the collaboration.

Sharp labs employ about 200 workers just outside Vancouver, Wash. They focus mostly on digital imaging, information technology, liquid crystal display materials and integrated circuits.
