Great Falls Development Authority is leading the city towards a "supertanker economy"

If the annual meeting of the Great Falls Development Authority http://www.gfdevelopment.org/ sounded like a pep rally, the figures presented might give credence to that atmosphere.

Brett Doney, GFDA president, pointed to good growth numbers in the Great Falls metro area, totaling 1,262 jobs created in the first two quarters of 2014, noting "we created three times as many in the last six months" as the 399 added during the entire 1990 to 1999 period. He said there was a net loss of 70 jobs in the two decade span of 1980 to 1999, spawned by closure of copper-refining operations in Black Eagle.

GFDA has a goal of raising $600,000 from its investors, up from last year’s $454,000 to spur what Doney called a "supertanker economy" — Great Falls’ $3.22 billion "gross domestic product."
