Box CEO: Balkanization of the Internet Would Be ‘Incredibly Bad’

The rise of nationalistic clouds stands to halt the growth of global commerce and hinder the free flow of information around the world, Box co-founder and CEO Aaron Levie said Wednesday.

"There is a much broader issue around making sure we avoid the Balkanization of the Internet," Mr. Levie told CIO Journal, describing possible regulations preventing the free flow of data outside national boundaries. "Policymakers and government officials are starting to talk about what it would mean to have these nationalistic clouds. That would be an incredibly bad outcome for the type of interconnectedness we’re starting to see from global companies."
