Vincent sizes up hub miss: manufacturing lack hurt Butte chances
June 6, 2014 /
Butte’s chances of landing a federally funded manufacturing hub were likely hurt by its lack of existing industries and the state and region’s largely rural status, Chief Executive Matt Vincent said Thursday.
"I think where we had an obstacle a little to big for them to look past is we had to demonstrate the significance of manufacturing present in our region," Vincent said, a day after announcing Butte’s miss to the Council of Commissioners.
Butte was among 70 communities across the country that applied to become a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation Center, joining a few others already announced by President Barack Obama.
