Business in dead-end towns – Cooke City and Silver Gate, Montana
May 4, 2014 /
Difficulties, opportunities abound for businesses outside Yellowstone’s northeast gate
Study a map long enough and its possible to find a place you’ve never been before, no matter how long you’ve lived in the twin communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate.
The towns just outside Yellowstone National Park’s northeast gate are a dead-end for about eight snowbound months every year. Only a 50-mile stretch of road through a northern slice of the park that’s plowed year-round connects residents to the outside world.
