Data, emotion are big factors in Helena school closure discussions
April 17, 2014 /
Data, data, data was the mantra for the first several meetings of the Helena school bond work group.
However, after broaching the topic of school closures earlier this week, members of the committee are giving emotion a seat at the table.
"It’s easier if you’re an outsider … to say we need to close," said Jefferson Elementary teacher Sherri Haller. "It is a very emotional decision and you really can’t remove that. As much as people just want to look at data, it’s really impossible to do."
