Public invited to discuss future of nursing education in Montana at series of open meetings

The Montana Center to Advance Health through Nursing (MT CAHN) and Montana State University’s Office of Rural Health (ORH/AHEC) will host a series of open meetings in April to discuss the future of nursing education in Montana. All individuals who are interested in nursing education are invited to attend.

The meetings are designed to gather information about local needs related to nursing education, according to Kailyn Dorhauer, project coordinator in the Montana Office of Rural Health at MSU. Meeting participants will be asked about nursing workforce needs in their areas now and in the future, as well as nursing education that is needed to meet future healthcare needs. Information from the meetings will be summarized and shared with nursing educators and nursing leaders at a statewide summit set for June 9-10 in Helena, Dorhauer said.

The meetings will be held as follows:

· Glasgow: Monday, April 7, noon-2 p.m., Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital conference room

· Glendive: Tuesday, April 8, noon-2 p.m., Glendive Medical Center Carney Center

· Miles City: Wednesday, April 9, 4-6 p.m., Miles Community College, Jim Lucas Building room 106

· Billings: Thursday, April 10, 6 p.m., City College Health Science Building room 219

· Great Falls: Monday, April 14, 6:30 p.m., University of Great Falls Student Center cafeteria

· Butte: Wednesday, April 23, 2-4 p.m., MT Tech of the University of Montana campus, Health Sciences Building room 202

· Kalispell: Monday, April 28, 1-3 p.m., FVCC Arts and Technology building room 139

· Pablo: Tuesday, April 29, noon-2 p.m., Salish Kootenai College Theatre

· Missoula: Tuesday, April 29, 4-6 p.m., Missoula College Health and Business room 01

· Bozeman: Date and location to be announced

· Helena: Date and location to be announced

The meetings are funded by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that is administered through the Montana Office of Rural Health/AHEC in the MSU College of Nursing.
