Movie magic from Montana – "From Choteau to Middle Earth" – It’s all about coding

"I came out of Montana, where careers were farming, ranching and teaching," Eric Reynolds said. "Going into programming was a big step."

Reynolds is an Oscar-nominated animation supervisor with Peter Jackson’s visual effects company, Weta Digital. He is one of four people who will get their hands on a statue this weekend if "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" comes out on top in the visual effects category at the 86th Academy Awards.

Like many teenagers, Reynolds’ path was uncertain when he left the small Montana town where he was born and raised and headed off to Moorhead, Minn. for college.

Eric Reynolds presents a Year of Engaged Leadership lecture "From Choteau to Middle Earth" at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, in Gaines Hall Room 101 on the Montana State University Campus. The lecture is free, but tickets are required and may be reserved by calling 994-4110.
