Great Falls, Montana Fights for Every Job
While the Electric City seems to beat only Butte for growth, Brett Doney, president of the Great Falls Development Authority, said he’s bullish on the city and Great Falls is helped by not having current growth and budget issues.
By comparison, Billings is large enough to draw development just because of critical mass, plus it has strong employment related to Bakken energy development. Bozeman’s high-tech graduates help fuel growth there.
Tourism will always come back to help the Flathead area. But Doney does find it ironic that Missoula, what many consider the state’s "granola" capital university town, has three times the manufacturing base of Great Falls, with 9 percent of its economy based in that sector.
