Curriculum Development Specialist

Flathead Valley Community College is an outstanding public community college located on a beautiful campus in Kalispell, Montana with panoramic views of the northern Rocky Mountains and Glacier National Park. The College is seeking applicants to fill the position of Curriculum Development Specialist.

This position is full-time professional, salaried. The pay range is $40,000 to $45,000 and is augmented by a competitive, fringe benefits package. Start date is April 2014. This is a Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant-funded position anticipated to last through September 2016.

JOB TITLE: Curriculum Development Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Career and Technical Education

PAY GRADE: 44

PAY RANGE: $40,000 – $45,000 annually depending on experience, full-time, 12 mos. per year, benefit-eligible. Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant-funded position anticipated to last through September 2016

FLSA: Exempt

SUMMARY

The Curriculum Development Specialist provides instructional and program design, supports the development of academic courses, and creates educational programs for online delivery

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Consults with faculty/instructors on curriculum design, development of instructional content, and effective uses of multimedia in the development of on-line and blended trades/technology, or on-campus courses.
Designs curricula in advanced manufacturing to be delivered online.

Plans, coordinates and conduct trainings on the use of new technologies and computer competencies to meet curriculum goals, and works with faculty members in the integration of instructional technology into their curriculum.
Conducts research on emerging technologies for use in an academic setting.

Provides instruction and support to students and staff to assist them in the development and/or improvement of technology skills.

Collaborates with faculty/instructors on instructional design issues

Provides input in the development of occupational trade programs that enables students to use technology as learning tools. Investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration, sources of information on trends, research and applications related to technology use for success.

Gathers information documenting the effectiveness of the program, interprets this information, and provides constructive input in evaluation of the program.
Maintains current knowledge of technology and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology.
Reports to the Director of Career and Technical Education.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, electronics or directly related technology field from an accredited college/university AND two years of teaching experience with development and delivery of online and/or blended instruction; OR,

Four years of instructional technology experience AND two years of teaching experience with development and delivery of online and/or blended instruction

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with manufacturing technology teaching tools

Experience teaching in higher education or at a secondary level

Experience working with learning management systems such as Desire2Learn, eCollege, Blackboard/WebCT, and Moodle

Experience with a variety of online synchronous and/or asynchronous delivery methods

Knowledge of emerging technologies as related to teaching and learning

Knowledge of instructional design models used to create effective instruction

Master’s degree in a related field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of a variety of computer tools applied to learning including, but not limited to, Desire2Learn, eCollege, Blackboard/WebCT, Moodle, Eluminate, Macromedia web application (i.e. Dreamweaver, Flash, Freehand, Captivate and Fireworks), Photoshop, and movie production software (i.e. Camtasia, iMovie, FinalcutPro, or Premiere)

Knowledge of emerging technologies as related to teaching and learning

Knowledge of instructional design models used to create effective instruction.

Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the community

Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC

Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.

Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships

Ability to follow and issue directions
Demonstrated communication, technology, presentation, customer service and interpersonal skills

Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds

Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels

Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check

This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
