Montana University System seeks better graduation rate

The percentage of first-time, full-time MUS students earning bachelor’s degrees within six years rose from 41 to 46 percent from the 2006-07 school year to the 2011-12 school year, the most recent year statistics are available from.

The Montana University System is seeking to improve student graduation rate at its six four-year colleges, which is getting better, but still trails the average of other western states.

Using a variety of strategies that include free tutoring, career counseling and a push to take heavier credit loads, the Montana University System made steady progress since the Montana Board of Regents set that goal in 2006.

Kevin McRae, deputy commissioner of higher education for communication and human resources, said there are two key reasons why the regents want to improve graduation rates.

MSU program encourages students to stay in school

Montana State University-Bozeman has a variety of ways to get students engaged, saving, studying and staying in school, including the imaginative ChampChange program in which students earn reward points and a chance to win a large $1,000 tuition credit twice a year in drawings led by Bobcat mascot Champ.
