Telperformance looks to hire 70 more workers in Butte

With a new, spacious home, the telemarketing firm, Teleperformance, is poised to become one of Butte’s larger private employers.

“ We are looking to hire another 60 to 70 people,” said Tracy Templin, manager of the call center. The additional staff would bring Teleperformance’s employee count in Butte to more than 200 people.

The business, which is headquartered in Salt Lake City, is also cele brating its newly acquired spacious headquarters in the former Smith’s grocery store on Harrison Avenue.

“ We were looking to expand,” said Mollee Lamb, corporate regional human resource manager for Teleperformance. “ We can be twice as large.”

The interior includes space for 64 work stations, with the potential for 80.

Formerly, the business was housed in a building at 220 N. Alaska that had about 6,000 square feet for workers. Now, that space has more than doubled to 14,000 square feet and the site also includes expanded parking, break room and other amenities, including new office furniture.

“ We love it,” Templin said.

Teleperformance officials declined to comment on whether the move is related to the discovery of mold in the 220 N. Alaska location. However, Lamb said that the business had been looking for a larger site for several years.

The telemarketing firm leases the Smith building — it is owned by out-of-state interests — but only occupies one-half to one-third of the total footage available.

Teleperformance has been an employer in Butte for nine years and also has centers in Kalispell and Billings.

The workers at the site — who at an entry-level wage earn $7 to $8 an hour — work in two shifts. Hours at the center are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Employees live in Butte, Dillon, Deer Lodge, Anaconda and Helena.

Teleperformance workers spend the majority of their time on the phone talking to customers of Fortune 500 companies to see if they are interested in sales offers. Templin added that the company uses state-of-the-art telecommuni cations equipment, and thousands of calls are made from the Butte center in a single day.

Jobs offered at Teleperformance are entry-level, and workers are trained.

She added that the Butte center is one of the “ crown jewels” of the Teleperformance family, which has 33 locations and more than 7,000 employees, citing the community’s caliber of employees and job skills.

“ This is a good state to do business,” she said.
