Cycle-friendly University of Montana bringing Missoula along for the ride

Back in the olden days of college when we took notes using pencils on paper – and employed the occasional tape recorder – the ASUM Office of Transportation didn’t exist at the University of Montana.

Four years after the Montana Grizzlies football team won their first national title over Marshall University, the office was quietly born. It was 1999 and no one could tell how much it would shape UM and the city of Missoula.

Jump forward 14 years to a standard Thursday when the League of American Bicyclists announced its latest round of "bicycle friendly universities." As you can probably guess, UM made that list, becoming one of just 75 universities in 32 states.
