Visitors to Cooke City seem to agree that the small burg’s one-way-in, one-way-out location in winter is part of its charm, according to a recent survey.
A debate over whether to plow the 8-mile snow "plug" on Highway 212 between Cooke City and its junction with Wyoming Highway 296 to allow year-round auto travel along the route has simmered for years.
"It’s to the point where the business owners aren’t even talking to each other," said Shannan Abelseth, owner of Cooke City Motorsports. "Hopefully the community will heal, but it’s ugly."
