Chasing the Silicon Prairie: Can high-level, high-tech employment catch fire around Montana?

When it comes to high-level tech companies creating software or programming computerized solutions for individuals or business, "It’s really all about the entrepreneur creating an idea, and attracting and retaining the talent," said Brett Doney, president of the Great Falls Development Authority http://www.gfdevelopment.org/ .

Great Falls native Rachele Bechard is a project manager at Zoot Enterprises http://www.zootweb.com , a Bozeman company that led the way in computerizing loan decisions in 1990 and has grown to help financial institutions with a wide range of decision making.

Armed with a business management degree from Montana State University, Bechard knows only a smattering of programming, but she has been at Zoot for nine years, after initially working in the banking industry.

"I came to Zoot looking for a new challenge," she said. "I am challenged every day" in the company’s Tools and Services Group, which provides financial institutions with software functions the client can tweak for specific needs.
