Map out your next great Montana adventure – Montana GPS

The next time you head out under the Big Sky to explore a new place, you can leave those maps at home.

Now thanks to one Montanan, all you need is a smartphone to know your way around the Treasure State.

You can also download maps that show land ownership overlays using Google Earth – which shows the owner for all public and private parcels in the state.

"It was a lot of trial and error. A lot of getting the maps, producing it, and then going out for a hike in the afternoon and seeing how well it works," explained Marshall Clark with Montana GPS. http://www.montanagps.com/index.html

Clark is is the mastermind behind the company, which is essentially an online database of maps.

They are the same paper maps you can buy from the U.S. Forest Service, except these cost you $5 and will work with your smart phone’s GPS. All you have to do is go online and download them.

Unlike a paper map, you’ve got some more options. You can see your current position and waypoints, and there’s even tracking capability.
