Montana businesses should consider supporting new graduates with internships

I would like to comment on your feature story this past Monday (Sept. 16) by Sally Mauk, news director for Montana Public Radio, and comments made by Brandon Busteed, executive director of Gallup Education. They both stated that "young people graduating from college have no real clue about what’s happening in the modern workplace and what is right for them." They went on to say that colleges are not doing a good enough job helping students find the right job for them.

Busteed suggests more internships and he is "right on" there with that comment. For the past 40 years I have been using internships for my nonprofit event consulting business. First in Los Angeles, San Diego and now here in Missoula. Since my wife and I moved here two years ago I have had two to three interns every semester from the University of Montana thanks to Kathleen Tarkalson, internship director.
