A year in the making: CMR seniors present collection of senior research projects

Career paths were firmly planted and curiosity grew into pursuits in this year’s crop of seniors in the English research class at C.M. Russell High School.

Hannah Vining spent time doing an internship with Benefis’ Sletten Cancer Institute for her project. Though it was emotionally challenging to work with cancer patients, Vining realized that she will, indeed, pursue a degree in medicine and wants to become an oncologist some day.

She and the 41 other students who participated in the research-based class, which required volunteer work, creating a product, working with a community mentor and writing about a controversial topic related to their field, had to present a year’s worth of work to a panel of community judges Wednesday.

"By the end of (the internship) I just really loved it," Vining said. "It was a really rewarding experience."
