Darby, Montana’s Lightfoot Cycles president works to redesign pedicabs for Asian markets

A small manufacturing facility in Darby is handcrafting specialty bicycles, largely for the U.S. market. Paradoxically, their experience may soon benefit millions of Asians living in congested urban areas.

Lightfoot Cycles http://lightfootcycles.com/ president Rod Miner was recently invited by the Asian Development Bank to participate in a design conference in Manila, to evaluate and solve problems related to pedicab transportation in Asian cities.

Pedicabs are human-powered vehicles (HPVs) that are used as neighborhood taxis for humans and cargo. They are, as a rule, heavy, inefficient, poorly-constructed and, as a result, not particularly safe or efficient.
