Record number of tourists, spending in Montana in 2012

More tourists flocked to Montana in 2012 than in any previous year in state history, according to recent research from the University of Montana, while the amount of money out-of-state visitors spent was also unprecedented.

The tourism and travel industry helped buoy the state through the economic downturn and keep regional economies afloat while other industries reeled from the recession, including commodities that were once staples.
