In our dynamic economy, strategic planning is essential to businesses of all sizes in order to stay competitive. In this session, UM business professor Michael Braun will discuss various frameworks for startups in Missoula.

Once the participants introduce themselves and their businesses, he will select a few of the most suitable strategies to present to the group. The strategies discussed here will take into account the external environment, the competitive landscape, the lifecycle of the business, and the core resources and capabilities of the firm.

Participants will walk away with relevant and efficient planning tools that should help them identify their current as well as future strategic competitive advantages.

Michael will begin his presentation at 5:30 p.m. and facilitate a roundtable discussion from 6–7 p.m.

Roundtable participants are eligible to also participate in Michael’s May 30 Expert on Site session.

Michael is a professor at The University of Montana, School of Business Administration, where his teaching focuses on competitive strategy and strategic management.

Prior to academia, Mike was a director with a Los Angeles-based boutique merchant bank, Stephens & Partners, where he initiated, raised capital for, and managed leveraged buyout strategies and transactions for private equity firms.
