Albertson Foundation offers $5 million for new Idaho school model

A hefty reward: The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation will pay a school district or charter school operator to "create a new form of school somewhere in Idaho."

Think college prep, or PTECH: The new school the foundation envisions would be inspired by the Pathways in Technology Early College High School being piloted in Brooklyn, New York and Chicago. PTECH schools partner with higher education and industry professionals.

The $5 million: The money is to go to the school’s startup costs, including expenses to pay for trips to Idaho to discuss potential proposals. The money also will ensure that students can attend without having to pay tuition.
