Professor speaks on biomedical research as UM, MSU lecture series kicks off

Thanks to a team of brilliant and dedicated researchers and students, as well as generous grant funding, the University of Montana Skaggs School of Pharmacy is now a player in the field of biomedical research.

Research conducted in labs around Montana is making significant inroads in the battle to fight disease and providing unique economic opportunities for students and researchers alike, said Dr. Richard Bridges during his talk, "Biomedical Research and its Impact on Medical Advancements, Student Training and Economic Development."

Bridges is professor and chairman of the College of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy at the University of Montana.

But Bridges, whose own research at the university involves exploiting naturally occurring transporters in brain cells to fight brain tumors, said federal grant funding from sources such as the National Institutes for Health is threatened by budget battles in Congress.
