Missoula, Montana Body Armor Venture, North American Development Group seeks funds

The specialized body armor company being established in Missoula is working steadily to get off the ground, but has yet to secure critical financing in Montana to fully launch itself.

The Dragon Skin product continues to draw attention from many potential clients around the world, said Jules Radcliff, chief executive officer of North American Development Group.

"The financing is where we’re struggling, we seem to have become the darling of the venture capitalist sect, we get an inquiry or offer about once a week looking to finance this, which is gratifying … But every single one of them want to move it outside the state," Radcliff said.

Dragon Skin is a specialized body armor that uses kinetic energy of the projectile to produce a reaction with the armor, causing the projectile material to disintegrate. Inside the vests is a honeycomb of specially manufactured discs that flex with a soldier’s body. The slabs of discs – resembling dragon skin – are lighter and more durable than the plates traditionally sewn into body armor.
