Booming Bitterroot College faces $50K shortfall, seeks sponsors for spring classes

Without some help from the community, the program may have to drop more than half of its offerings.

This fall, the Bitterroot College of the University of Montana has a record number of students enrolled in a record number of classes.

But that growth in the relatively new college program in Hamilton faces a serious challenge.

The college is tied to the University of Montana’s purse strings.

Enrollment on the Missoula campus is down this year, which means overall revenue at UM has dropped too.

And that has put a strain on the booming college program in the Bitterroot.
