Groundbreaking Big Data (Streams) Computing Class Gives University of Montana Students Market Edge

This fall, students at the University of Montana had the opportunity to take a class that was being taught at the undergraduate level for the first time anywhere.

UM’s Introduction to Streams course is based on the InfoSphere Streams platform developed by computing industry giant IBM to address the growing problem of trying to harness the mind-bending amount of data being unleashed on the web at any given time. The existing paradigm of making use of data by storing it and searching for it later through a database query has been thrown out the window.
