The knowledge economy requires skills of its own

America is in the midst of a fundamental economic realignment akin to the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution enabled unparalleled growth and wealth creation in this country. Factories spread, reducing the need for skilled artisans and increasing the number of factory workers. Political candidates insist they will bring back manufacturing jobs to America. They will not. Manufacturing jobs will not return to America on a large scale. We are no longer an industrial, manufacturing or agrarian economy. Rather, we are a knowledge economy.
