Montana Business Assistance Connection and the Montana Community Finance Corp. – Finding businesses to build wealth in Helena, Montana

Although there’s still an "interim" label in front of Joe McClure’s new title as executive director of the Montana Business Assistance Connection http://mbac.biz, we’re hopeful the new head of our area’s economic development authority can kick-start some incentives to drive growth in the private sector economy of the Helena region.

Significantly more than half of our economy is dependent upon the public sector — state government is by far the biggest employer in town, with federal and local governments also employing significant numbers.

But it’s the private sector that MBAC is in place to fuel. In a meeting this week with the IR’s editorial board, McClure and Linda Kindrick, director of the Montana Community Finance Corp. http://www.mtcommunityfinance.org/ and chair of MBAC’s board of directors, said it’s fair to say the organization has treaded water for a few years, and it’s time for some more positive strides toward economic development.
