The Face of Montana
May 20, 2012 /
Sitting at his kitchen table, Jim Heaphy can hear cows mooing outside. Probably the neighbors herding cattle across the gravel road, he figures.
Not that Heaphy, 67, worries much about the neighbors. Living out in Galen, he is 13 miles from Anaconda and 13 miles from Deer Lodge. The man loves his privacy.
So, when a New York City photographer showed up in 2008 to feature Heaphy as part of his book on average folks from across the country, he ran into a shyer and quieter subject than most.
Piero Ribelli, author of "50 Main Street: The Face of America," set out seven years ago to compile
50 profiles from 50 states at all the same address:
50 Main Street.
