Iowa sees shortage of skilled workers

Some fear economic growth could be hampered if the current struggle to fill jobs continues.
For the first time, CEO Steve Fairbanks is considering using headhunters to bring workers from Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere to fill critically needed welding jobs at XL Specialized Trailers in Manchester.
"It’s very expensive, and they will only guarantee that they’ll stay on the job for 60 days," said Fairbanks, who has immediate needs for 25 welders, jobs that pay more than $50,000 annually with overtime.
