Missoula city, county split from annual Chamber of Commerce event

For the first time in 27 years, the Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its state of Missoula luncheon without presentations from the mayor or Board of County Commissioners.

In an interview about the Wednesday event, Mayor John Engen http://www.ci.missoula.mt.us/directory.aspx?EID=36 said he wanted the city to partner with the county and University of Montana for its own affair, the "State of the Community." The three institutions work together "in some fairly significant ways."

"I think if we’re going to offer a state of the community address, we ought to own it and deliver it," Engen said. "And commissioners and university officials were of similar mind."
