Newcomers have a lot to learn about Bitterroot life

Mother Nature usually grants the Bitterroot Valley an unseasonably warm set of days right before Thanksgiving and just after New Year’s – perfect for hanging up and taking down Christmas decorations. But after living here for 14 years, I’ve come to understand that certain chores should not be done during those deceptive days of sunshine.

For example, as a matter of precedence and respect for changing seasons, lawn mowing, no matter how badly needed, just shouldn’t be done during the first week of January.
