Governor Otter Maps Aggressive Plan for Idaho – looks to invest more in business development

Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter http://gov.idaho.gov/ presented his budget proposals for the next fiscal year at Monday’s State of the State address, kicking off Idaho’s 2012 legislative session.

The proposals — for fiscal 2013, starting July 1 — include $45 million set aside in tax relief, $60 million for replenishing the state’s reserves, and $41 million for revenue-based salary increases for state employees.

Otter said that the state’s financial condition is getting healthier thanks to its leaders’ focus on fiscal responsibility.

After years of lean times, the Idaho Department of Commerce looks to be one of the big winners in the budget unveiled by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter Jan. 9, with state funding growing by nearly half. The governor also announced the new Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) that could spur further growth in the public and private sector.
