2012 Youth Serve Montana Scholarships Available to High School Seniors

Students earn $1,000 dollars for college by giving 100 volunteer hours

The Governor’s Office of Community Service and Montana Campus Compact, announced today that the 2012 Youth Serve Montana Scholarships are now available for up to 70 Montana high school seniors. It is the 7th year for this exciting scholarship opportunity aimed at students who have completed 100 hours of volunteer service in their community by April 16, 2012.

Students who apply and qualify may receive $1,000 dollars toward continued education at one of Montana Campus Compact’s twenty public, tribal, private, community, or technical colleges and universities.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our students’ enthusiasm for volunteering," said Jan Lombardi, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Community Service. "The Youth Serve Montana Scholarships are a great way to honor students who invest their time and talents in Montana, and want to stay here for college."

Applications, proof of volunteer service, and enrollment to a Montana post-secondary institution must be submitted to the Governor’s Office of Community Service by noon April 16, 2012.

"Students who volunteer gain valuable job skills and invest in their community," said Stefani Hicswa, President of Miles City Community College and member of the Montana Campus Compact. "These scholarships provide us the opportunity to reward student leaders throughout Montana for making a difference." President Hicswa also serves on the Montana Commission on Community Service.

The 2012 Youth Serve Montana Scholarships have been made available through a partnership with the Governor’s Office of Community Service (http://www.serve.mt.gov) and Montana Campus Compact (http://www.mtcompact.org), the largest higher education network in Montana. Montana Campus Compact includes 20 of Montana’s two-year, four-year, public, private, tribal, and community colleges and universities, with a state network office located in Missoula.

The scholarships are administered by the Governor’s Office of Community Service.
