Montana revamps its winter tourism promotion

"For over 50 years I’ve traveled the world with my skis and camera, producing hundreds of ski movies. One winter I was filming here in Montana and I gave up traveling forever. … I could live anywhere in the world, and I choose to live here in Montana."

– Warren Miller, in a radio ad promoting Montana as a winter tourism destination http://travelmontana.org/consumermarketing/radio.asp

If you find yourself in certain cities this winter, you may see something – on the side of a building, on top of a taxi or wrapped around a bus – that reminds you of home.

It could be a picture of a skier plowing through virgin powder amid snow-ghosted trees, or maybe a grizzly momma and her cub frolicking on a whitened mountainside.

But nobody’s trying to make you homesick. They are, however, trying to lure everyone around you in this direction at a time of year when most vacationers avoid our state.
