Budget: Research dollars vital to U.S.

As Rep. Denny Rehberg and members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, and Sen. Max Baucus and the Senate debt "super committee" members propose recommendations to reduce the federal deficit, it’s vital that this select group of legislators remember that scientific research contributes to medical progress and economic prosperity and remains strongly supported by the American public.

For decades, medical research has been jointly supported by both Republicans and Democrats, enabling scientists to make new discoveries, develop groundbreaking treatments and therapies, create jobs and build a competitive high-tech, high-wage American economy.
