American Expedition Vehicles, with roots in Missoula, specializes in beefing up Jeeps

Just outside Detroit a bison stands poised to charge high on the front walls of the American Expedition Vehicle http://www.aev-conversions.com/ facility.

The 40,000-square-foot building holds millions of dollars’ worth of American Expedition Vehicle’s off-road conversion products. Jeeps sit waiting outside to be worked over by company technicians who will turn the iconic vehicles into bigger and badder versions of themselves.

American Expedition Vehicle’s innovative products beef up Jeeps by adding anything from stamped steel bumpers to snorkels to entire flatbeds. Pictures of American Expedition Vehicle Jeeps show the cars climbing, then dropping back over 6-foot rock formations, and navigating tire-swallowing mud holes in the wilderness of Borneo.

The tough-looking bison bull is the company’s logo and a small symbol of American Expedition Vehicle’s roots in western Montana. While the company does all its conversions and product shipping from the facility Wixom, Mich., all the research and development is done from its garage in Missoula.
