Senator Baucus Congratulates Missoula, Montana Native, Brian Schmidt, on Winning Nobel Prize in Physics

Montana’s senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus http://baucus.senate.gov/congratulated Missoula-born astronomer, Brian Schmidt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_P._Schmidt , today for winning the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/physics/laureates/2011/schmidt.html.

"Congratulations to Brian on earning such a prestigious award and working hard to expand our knowledge of the world and space. Big Sky Country is the best place on earth for star-gazing, and I’d like to think that might have had an impact on Brian," Baucus said.

Schmidt, born in Missoula, Montana in 1967, is one of three scientists to share the award for discovering that the universe is expanding at an accelerating pace. Schmidt is currently head of the High-z Supernova Search Team at the Australian National University in Weston Creek, Australia.
