Montana ends fiscal year with $340M

Amid the chaos of federal budget deficits and debt ceiling negotiations in Washington, Gov. Brian Schweitzer pointed proudly Thursday to Montana’s $340 million general fund balance as of July 1.
"They’re broke in Washington, D.C., and we have one of the best cash positions in the history of Montana," he told a press conference. "It’s a different style of management. We pay as we go, and we challenge every expenditure. And in Washington, D.C., they just continue to kick it down the road and hope someone else will pay for it."
