Gov. Otter urges business community to continue backing education changes

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter urged the state’s business community on Tuesday to back education reform laws that now face repeal efforts.

Otter’s comments about the education overhaul, dubbed Students Come First, came in Twin Falls at the 37th annual conference of the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry.

The three education laws face critics, including teachers, concerned that their emphasis on technology will marginalize the role of educators. Three referendums that will go on the November 2012 ballot now each have more than 74,000 signatures.
