Teen teaches teachers

Thirteen-year old Adora Svitak faced seven teachers Monday at Montana State University Billings.

But it was Adora doing the teaching.

Earlier in the morning, the poised ninth-grader from Redmond, Wash. gave the opening speech Monday morning during the "Raising the Bar for Tomorrow’s Leaders" summer institute.

The conference, which attracted 170 educators from around Montana, is sponsored by the Montana Center on Disabilities and the MSU Billings College of Education and continues through Thursday.

Adora began reading at age 3 ½. When she was 5, she heard that some children didn’t like to read, so she started visiting elementary schools to talk to the reluctant students.

She’s now giving speeches to teachers around the world about the best ways to get students excited about reading and writing.
