Emmy nominated flimmaker credits Bozeman, Montana-area roots as his inspiration

Even in the middle of a rainstorm, Richard Smith and his son Zebediah Smith would sit still for hours in one place, letting the raindrops fall all over them.

"What are we waiting for?" Zeb would ask.

"I don’t know," Richard would respond. "Let’s find out."

They hoped to see wildlife or light that would fall just right on leaves and rocks. If they did, they’d take photographs. And if they didn’t, they’d go home drenched, but with a story to tell.

It was experiences like those – especially the ones in Montana – that instilled in Zeb a love for storytelling, wildlife and landscapes. Now 31, Zeb is a filmmaker whose work often appears on PBS, and he recently found out he was nominated for an Emmy award.
