Position Location: Missoula, MT

GCS Research seeks a programmer to support product development and professional service contracts related to location-based services and geographic information systems (GIS). This programming position is focused on development of distributed network services and integration with third-party systems. The position will work closely with senior programmers and project managers to develop, design, document, construct, integrate, test and support .NET solutions and services. Candidate will be involved with the specification of technical solutions from requirements gathering to proposal and assessment preparation. Working with others on the technical service team, the candidate will participate in all phases of the product development/project lifecycle. The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in computer science or related field, 1-3 years experience in server and/or network centric application development, and strong written communication and verbal presentation skills suitable for technical and non-technical audiences. The candidate must have applied experience with IIS and Oracle/SQL Server; proficiency in .NET programming; and experience with C++ and COM. Additional desired attributes include experience with third-party API integration, GIS, sensor technologies, UML, Geodatabase design, ArcObjects with ArcGIS (desktop, engine and server), ArcIMS, and ArcSDE. Flexibility is required with regard to responsibilities and duties. Some travel is required.

Position Location: Missoula, MT

The User Interface Designer/Programmer role requires a highly motivated person interested in designing innovative, intuitive web and desktop applications used by a wide range of user types. A passion and capacity to advocate on behalf of our various users is a must. This role is unique in that it requires creative design skill and development skills in order to design and develop prototypes and components that will drive the development of the final product.
Familiarity with agile-based UI design process and best practices is desired. Proficiency with UI design tools and technologies expected. As an individual contributor (this is not a management role), the User Interface Designer/Programmer works with all levels of employees within GCS-Research, including the executive team.

Responsibilities

* Quickly yet thoroughly create process flows, wireframes, and visual design mockups as needed to effectively conceptualize and communicate detailed interaction behaviors.

* Build interactive prototypes if necessary to support mockups

* Represent the user in product discussions with development engineers and product managers

* Provide User Interface design, reviews, and UI standards ownership and enforcement (across technologies and a specific product)

* Continually look for ways to improve the UI in terms of usability to the end user

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

*

Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Microsoft Expression Studio, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks

*

Key Technologies: Silverlight/WPF, Flex/ActionScript, HTML/CSS/ Javascript

*

Experience with AJAX and JavaScript frameworks, such as JQuery

*

Familiarity with source control systems a must

Other Skills:

*

3+ years of user interface design for enterprise-class applications. Experience building rich internet applications a plus.

*

Experience with Service Oriented Architectures and web-services;

*

Experience with the complete software development lifecycle; experience with agile methodologies a plus

*

Knowledge of user-centered or goal-directed design principles coupled with a "don’t make me think" understanding of usability

*

Experience conducting usability test a plus

*

UI leadership experience and skills required

*

Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to author technical and application design documents.

*

Knowledge and/or experience the GIS, domain a plus

*

Experience collaborating with senior technical staff
