Missoula is 2010 Award Winner

Missoula, Montana

In Missoula, MT, every sector works together to help youth become healthy, caring and independent adults. Voters overwhelming passed a mill levy to financially support youth substance abuse prevention programming, indicating the importance Missoula places on its youth. Government and businesses partnered to develop an aquatics center, a skateboard park, an ice rink and a whitewater park. Making programs available to all youth is a priority.

Child Care Resources http://www.childcareresources.org/ offers scholarships for low-income children to participate in fee-based programs. The Forest Service, Fish Wildlife and Parks, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation http://www.rmef.org/ , Missoula Parks and Recreation, and the Missoula Children and Nature Network offer programs that take advantage of Missoula’s proximity to wilderness areas.

This is the second time that Missoula, MT has been designated as one of America’s 100 Best Communities.
