Senator Max Baucus and Senator Tester Highlight Montana Opportunities In Boeing-Air Force Contract

Senator Committed to Montana Manufacturing Jobs

Montana’s senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus hails today’s news that the Air Force has awarded Boeing a $35-billion contract to build aerial refueling tankers as "a victory for Montana workers."

"This news means jobs for Boeing-Helena and Montanans for years to come. We’re working hard at every level to boost manufacturing in Montana and this brings us another step toward good-paying jobs to lead the economy forward," said Baucus. "I’m pleased to see an American company win the contract but even more thrilled that this will result in real jobs for Montana workers."

Baucus says this is a full circle moment for him. 13 years ago, he invited Boeing representatives to Helena to meet with representatives of Summit Aeronautics, which was recently purchased by Boeing.

Boeing officials say their Helena plant will see continued work as a direct result of this contract. Boeing-Helena manufactures important components that will be used for the tanker including landing gear. The company currently has 59 employees in Montana.

Tester: Boeing contract secures jobs in Montana and across America

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement in response to the Pentagon’s decision to award a major Air Force tanker contract to Boeing, which recently acquired Summit Aeronautics in Helena:

“The contract isn’t final yet, but today’s decision is a good step toward securing jobs in Montana and across the country by strengthening our military and boosting America’s manufacturing base. That’s a solid investment in my book. I look forward to seeing Montanans continue to work for Boeing, meeting the needs of America’s military.”
