Backpacker Magazine sparks summer fever in Northern Rockies

Even amid subzero temperatures and a new blanket of snow, it’s not too early to dream of placid lakes, trees with leaves and summer adventures in the Northern Rockies.

At least that’s the thinking at Backpacker Magazine http://www.backpacker.com/ , which named Wyoming’s Wind River Range and Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness as among "America’s best-kept secrets" in its March issue.

"In a range renowned for its incredible peaks-to-people ratio, we’ve scouted the loneliest route of all," the magazine says, referring to a hike in the Wind Rivers that starts near Pinedale on the Meadow Lake trailhead.

The accompanying image shows a hiker clad in shorts crossing a snowless setting with a trekking pole clutched her right hand.
