Legislature should put priority on funding Montana’s quality public schools or is it all about corporate profits and corporate control of education?
It’s troubling that Montana’s legislative majority is contemplating subsidizing private schools at the same time it is considering cutting money for public schools. Private schools play an important role in Montana education, but they are not the government’s responsibility; public education is state government’s responsibility.
If there’s less money, public schools are still required to serve all children who enroll. If special-education money is reduced, local schools are still required by federal and state law to provide the services those children need.
Legislators must ensure that our public schools continue to thrive so Montana children will be educated to their full potential for good jobs and active citizenship. Don’t let the children down.
