New Web site promotes Wyoming beef

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) – A new Web site has been set up to help Wyoming beef producers expand
the market for their cattle.
Steve Paisley, extension beef cattle specialist with the University of Wyoming Cooperative extension
service, developed the site with funding from the Wyoming Business Council.

The site lists cattle that come from Wyoming operations that are certified through the Beef Quality
Assurance (BQA) Program.
Cattle buyers can go to the site at http://www.wyobeef.com
to find daily updates of BQA cattle for sale in several categories, including calves, stockers/yearlings,
replacement heifers, bred heifers and cows, cow-calf pairs and bulls.

"This isn’t an auction site, but it provides a way to advertise cattle for sale, promote Wyoming cattle that are
raised with sound management practices, and create additional contacts with potential buyers," says Paisley.
"The cattle market is down right now and may sink even lower if corn prices increase, so any exposure to
buyers is important."

BQA is a national program through the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association that promotes the use of
sound management practices to increase management steps involved in producing quality beef.
Paisley said these steps include having an effective herd health program in place, managing the feedstuffs
and feed additives used in the operation, and developing animal care and handling practices that minimize
stress on the animals.

"By guaranteeing that consumers are buying a wholesome product that has been produced with sound
management practices, we will build customer confidence and increase the likelihood that consumers will
choose beef when making meal decisions," he says.
