Fire District re-advertising opening for assistant fire chief

The Hebgen Basin Fire District http://www.hebgenbasinfd.com/ is still searching for an assistant fire chief.

Fire Chief Scott Waldron advised the fire district board at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening that he received just one application after advertising locally for the new position, which was approved at December’s meeting. That applicant does not meet all of the criteria for the position as required in Policy 305.30, specifically the college requirement according to Waldron.

Waldron told the board that he and the district’s lawyer came to the conclusion that the wording in the policy for hiring for the position is too restrictive, requiring that all criteria must be met in order to qualify for the position.

In further discussion, board members agreed that one of the primary considerations is finding a candidate who will stay in West Yellowstone, someone who will not leave after two or three months on the job and effectively waste the training that was invested in them.
